I am so thankful for the more than 20-year relationship I had with Vern. I am blessed to be married to his stepdaughter, Nancy, and I am blessed again to see our son, Max, and our other children have a wonderful and loving relationship with him. Vern was always about family, especially when it came to his grandchildren and spending time with them. I will always appreciate the respect and love that he showed me over the last 20+ years. Whether it was watching the Cardinals playing on TV or taking the pontoon boat out to the local waterfront restaurant I will always think fondly of Vern. Perhaps the next time we meet, we will watch a Cardinal game or discuss how to properly grow those darn watermelons, which I can never get quite right. If there was ever a life lived well, it was yours, Vern. God’s speed to you.
