Vernon's obituary

Vernon Odell Rowe II was called home to the Lord for Christmas on Wednesday, December 23, 2020.

VR was born August 6, 1947 and was the eldest of 6 children raised by Vernon Odell Rowe and Dorothy Lucyelle (Rowe) Powell. The family lived in the Fairview Community near Laguna Park at Lake Whitney and he attended Clifton School until the 6th grade. He was a 1966 graduate and star athlete of Valley Mills High School.

Vernon was a devout family man and an avid athlete. While living in Glen Rose in the 80’s and early 90’s, Vernon coached every sport his kids played and was their biggest fan at every event of theirs he attended.

During his time in Glen Rose, Vernon owned Rowe Electric and for many years sponsored a men’s softball team on which he and his sons and many local men played.

If you knew Vernon well, you had probably been challenged to race him in the 100 yard dash, or invited to the house to play football or softball at least once! Vernon was a prankster and jokester and if you were around him, you always ended up laughing.

Vernon married the love of his life, Tammy Sledge, on May 23, 1998.

For the past, almost 23 years, Vernon and Tammy have lived in various cities across the US, but settled eventually in Garden Ridge, TX, just North of San Antonio, where they kept a beautiful home that their family loved to visit.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Francis Veronica Rowe, Johnny Shadrick (Ricky) Rowe, and Valerie Olivia (Rowe) Graves.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Tammy Rowe; son Shannon Rowe and wife, Heather; daughter Jaki Heppler and husband, Steve; daughter Stephanie Walsh and husband, Mark; son Bradford Rowe and wife, Desa; step-son Brian Massey and wife, Cara; and step-daughter Brandis Tate and husband, Brice. Sisters: Debra Rowe and Evelyn Moore. Grandchildren: Megan Rowe, Madison Rowe, Jadon Morris, Grace Morris, Jaxon Heppler, Alexandra Walsh, Genevieve Walsh, Kennedy Rowe, Owen Massey, Hudson Massey and Nolan Massey, special friends Marvin and Patricia Franklin and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and family.
