Verlene's obituary
Verlene Johnson was born on January 23,1953. She was given birth into this world by her mother Rosie Lee Perkins, immediately bringing joy and laughter into the world. After her childhood, She went on to graduate from Dunbar Vocational Career Academy in 1971 as an honor student. Soon after graduating from high school, In the year of 1976, she met Eddie Johnson where she later got married. Verlene was married for a number of 17 years and birth two sons, Isaiah and Emmanuel and also taking full custody of her nieces Tanisha and Lakisha, raising them as daughters.
Verlene was a fiercely dedicated mom to all of her children, raising all 4 of them to go on to accomplish great things. Family came first and was above all else to her, a value she instilled in all those around her. During her beautiful time here with us her professionalism spanned across different genres of skills. She worked at Chicago Motors. She worked as a Health Provider for Mentally Challenged Individuals. She worked at a Candy Factory. She was a true Homemaker. Her recent and most significant profession was her dedication to the Jones Community Center, where she joined an extended loving family. At the Jones Center she had a personal oath to help strengthen family ties, to emphasize the worth of God's children and answer the community's needs. She was a true servant at heart. She enjoyed hobbies such as computer games, traveling, crossword puzzles and action movies. She had the most vast collection of recorded classic movies and gourmet cookbooks. Cooking is where her passion was and that legacy has already been passed to her children. As much as she enjoyed staying to herself; she always found a way to help others become better. The void left by her absence will never be replaced. Nevertheless, Her spirit will forever bring us Joy and Peace.
Verlene Johnson lived in the suburbs of Chicago Heights, Illinois. God called Her to come home at 1:36p.m. on June 26, 2022 at the age of 69, after a short but fierce battle with cancer. Verlene was predeceased by her grandfather Alexander Green, mother Rosie Lee Green and brother Donald Green. She also leaves behind grandchildren Angelique, Alaysia, Erick, Erica, Antionette, Ah"Leah, Darnisha, Brianna and Jamari. Great-grandchildren Aidan and Ayda.

Broken Chain
We knew little that morning that God was going to call your name
It broke our hearts to lose you;, You did not go alone; for part of us went with you, the day God called you home. You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide; and though we cannot see you, you are always at our side. Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same; but God will call us one by one, the chain will link again.
Thank You
Words cannot express how deeply we appreciate all the love and support shown to our family at a difficult time. We are incredibly grateful, and will always remember your kindness .
