Vera's obituary

Vera Annell Hamilton,80, passed away July 17, 2023, at St Dominic’s Hospital. Vera was born on October 3, 1942 to William Earnest Kennedy and Mamie Vera Smith in Magee, MS. Vera is predeceased by her husband, Bobby Gene Hamilton who she married on August 27, 1960. They were married for 50 years before he passed away in 2010. They had 4 children: Marty (Kathy), Nancy, Steve (Lisa) and Trevor (Michelle). Vera is survived by sisters Mamie Atkinson (Billy Ray) and Teena Huggins (John) and is predeceased by her son, Marty Hamilton and brothers Billy Ray Kennedy and Ershel Kennedy and sister Barbara Bairfield.

Over the years, Vera worked at Rose’s, Regions Bank, Northside Elementary. She then was at Baptist Hospital in the insurance department for over 25 years, retiring in 2013.

She was the rock of the family, the giver of the best hugs. She was always there when you needed her. The people who brought “Nannell” the most joy were her Grandchildren:

DR Gassmann II (Tammy), Kayla Burt (Bryan), Austin Hamilton, Britnee Pierce (Michael), Erin Bass (Cory), Taylor Miller (Zach), Kennedy Hamilton, Alex Hamilton, Carrie Hamilton, MaryKate Hamilton, Gracie Hamilton and Zaidyn Hamilton.

And Great Grandchildren: Madison Gassmann, Jacob Gassmann, Brayson Turner, Zane Hamilton, Waylon Hamilton, Aurora Hamilton, Asuna Hamilton, Luna Burt, Jane Bass and Lucy Bass.

Please join us for a Celebration of Life on Thursday, July 20th at Pearson Baptist Church in Pearl. Visitation will begin at 6pm and a short service will follow at 7pm. Flowers can be sent to Pearson Baptist Church after 12p on Thursday.
