Vera Ann's obituary
Vera Ann “Grammie” Leath, born December 21, 1938, in Marianna, Florida went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 22nd at approximately 8:15 p.m., surrounded by her loving children and several of her grandchildren. Her passing was peaceful, filled with the comfort of family and the sound of her favorite gospel music by Alan Jackson.
Vera Ann was the youngest of three children and the only girl, with two older brothers, James and Carl. From the very beginning, she was the princess of the family—a role she carried with grace, charm, and a little sparkle throughout her life.
She attended Leon High School, where she formed many lifelong memories and friendships, and later attended Chipola Junior College, where she was a cheerleader.
Vera Ann was blessed to have two great loves in her life. She was first married to David Minton on September 13, 1958 and together they shared 34 wonderful years of marriage while raising their three children in Pinson, Alabama. During that time, Vera Ann worked as a secretary at the local high school. She also served as an Executive Secretary at Wilson Scrap Metal and Voight-England Industrial, where she was known for her professionalism, organization, and warm personality. In 1998, she rekindled a high school romance with Richard Leath, and they later married and enjoyed over 20 years of marriage together and eventually retired to Springville, Alabama, where they made their home.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Richard Leath; her children, Sid Minton (Diane), Kim Freeman (Billy), and Beth Wallace (Chris); her stepdaughter, Laura Leath; and her cherished grandchildren, Maegan Reynolds (Justin), Geoff Carroll, Alex Minton (Sara Grace), Macy Cornelius (Ivan), Riley Freeman, and Braden Minton.
Her greatest pride and joy were her four great-grandchildren, Ella Mae Reynolds, Rush Reynolds, Rip Reynolds, and Sawyer Minton, who brought her endless happiness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Minton; her parents, Anniemary and James “Bo” Stewart; and her brother, James Stewart. She is survived by her brother, Carl Stewart.
Known lovingly as “Grammie” and affectionately as “The Queen,” Vera Ann had a vibrant personality and a heart devoted to her family. She had a love for shopping, enjoyed trying her luck at slot machines, and made sure her “babies” always had everything they needed. She showed up for every dance recital, baseball game, softball game, football game, and basketball game she possibly could, always cheering on her family with pride. She was rarely seen without her lipstick, earrings, and nails painted a Grammie-approved shade of pink—and was never shy about reminding others if they needed a little touch-up too.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, April 28th at 11:00 a.m. at Clearbranch Methodist Church, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. In honor of Vera Ann’s vibrant spirit, guests are encouraged to wear bright colors to the service.
Her legacy of love, strength, and devotion to her family will live on in all who knew and loved her.
