Velma's obituary
Velma Louise (Helwig) Black, of Bryan Texas, died unexpectedly from a brief illness on March 29, 2022, at the age of 89. The family is deeply saddened by her sudden death. Velma was born on February 26, 1933, and lived in New York State for the first half of her life, and in Texas for the second half. She attended LaSalle High School and Bryant and Stratton Business School. Velma poured her heart and soul into her husband’s successes, and her children and grandchildren's life achievements. She spent much of her free time tending to her plants and was frequently seen reading her Bible. Everyone who knew Velma knew how friendly she was. Velma shared fun stories from her past that made everyone feel as if they knew her forever after just a single meeting with her. Velma is survived by her son, Robert R. Black, and his wife, M. Roxanne Black, of Montgomery, Texas; her daughter, Suzanne Black, and granddaughter, Faythe Black, of Bryan, Texas; grandson, Brian Black, of Lubbock, Texas; David R. Black and his wife, Betsy Black; Deidra and Jeff Wilson and many nieces and nephews of western New York as well as an abundance of friends. We will miss her more than words can express. We do know; however, due to her strong faith, she was looking forward to joining her husband of 57 years, Robert, in heaven.
A service is planned at Bethel Lutheran Church in Bryan on April 4th at 1:00pm. Contributions can be made in memory of Velma to Bethel Lutheran Church or Aggieland Humane Society.
