Valory's obituary

Our mother, Valory Ellsworth Cuthbert-Payne, was one of the most caring and special women to ever walk this earth and our family was blessed to have her in it . At the early age of 71, she passed away peacefully in her sleep the morning of January 16th, 2023 at her residence in Canton, GA.

Valory was born on February 13th, 1951 to Donald & Joyce Payne in Bethlehem, PA.  A few years after graduating from Staples High School in Westport, CT, she was reintroduced to James Cuthbert at a party.  They fell in love and went on to live together for over 40 years and had three children, James, Jessi, and Angus.  Val did everything she could to aid her family and those around them through the many passions and problems of their lives, values she instilled in all those around her.  The hole left by her absence is impossible to fill.

Val was passionate about gardening and having a constant chaotic assortment of wild flowers.  Roses were her favorites, even though she was never very good at getting them to grow without her husband's help.  On warm sunny days, you could always count on her being outside taking care of her many flower beds and potted plants.

Val was predeceased by her mother Joyce and husband James.  She is survived by her three children James Payne, Jessi Cuthbert-Payne, and Angus Cuthbert and her five grandchildren as well as her father, Donald Payne, siblings, Skye, Christopher, and Bradley Payne; and a large extended family.

Val requested that she be cremated and her life celebrated with a party rather than with a funeral service. In lieu of flowers, you're welcome to make a donation in Valory’s name to Doctors without Borders.  There will be celebration of life from 1-4 pm on Saturday, February 11th at the Brookfield Country Club in Roswell, GA.
