Eudine "Sheila"'s obituary
Eudine Elaine Anglin, better known as “Sheila”, by friends and family, was born on June 10, 1946, at Tweedside Road, Bridgetown, Saint Michael, Barbados to Ruby Inniss and Herbert Grimes. Sheila was raised by her grandmother, Iris Tudor, after her mother Ruby, moved to England.
As a teenager growing up, Sheila loved to go to the theater and watch action packed movies and wear the widest can-can skirt in the neighborhood; that when she would enter or exit a building she would have to turn to the side, shoulder first, to step through the door. By the late 60’s Sheila moved from Barbados and migrated to England to be with her mother Ruby, where she eventually met her husband Ellis Anglin at a Valentine’s Dance. There is one thing about Sheila, that she loved to dance and have the time of her life.
During those early years in England, she worked at The Children’s Hospital as a custodian, and one day was offered a job to assist the surgeon by setting up a sterile operating room and handing him the surgical instruments he asks for. That was an opportunity of a lifetime for a young Bajan girl.
Sheila was not afraid of hard work. By the mid 70’s she moved to Canada, with her then three children, and opened up her own cleaning business, working by day and studying to be a RNA by night. After receiving her diploma, she worked at “ Blackadar Nursing Home” for 21 years, 7 of which she worked straight nights.
After retiring from a nursing career, instead of sitting home relaxing, she decided to work some more, and chose to start another business and open “Santa Rosa Restaurant” with her husband Ellis. After 10 years of being in operation, they closed Santa Rosa, and in 2002, they opened a Caribbean Diner called “Ellis Kitchen" which she continued to run after the passing of her husband in 2014. The diner served Jamaican Beef Patties, Jerk Chicken, Oxtails, Rice and Peas … Do I need to go on? Sheila was still making waves when she had the idea to start another business and opened up a local community bar, right next door to Ellis Kitchen, from 2004 – 2020 and called it “Sheila’s Place”.
In 2019 she retired, yes, a second time, and went back to Barbados where she spent her days with morning walks on the beach, laughing and dancing every chance she gets. But she still, somehow found a way to be working, serving others with her contagious smile and passion for life. Her weekends were spent helping those in need. One weekend she would volunteer at a local organization that helped to keep the community clean, another weekend she would volunteer at the Salvation Army to help provide clothing and supplies to the less fortunate, another weekend she would volunteer at a nonprofit housing organization that would take care of the homeless on the streets, giving them food and providing temporary shelter. On Most Sundays when she is not volunteering, her love for the Lord, would find her in church giving back to God. Sheila transitioned on May 3, 2023 and went home to be with her Lord.
Sheila is survived by her five children, Linda Brooks Horton, Janet Brathwaite, Sophia Anglin, Christopher Inniss and Leroy Anglin, as well as her sisters Stephanie Grimes, Carolyn Inniss and brother Selwyn Inniss, and her aunts and uncles, Valda Wright, Carmen Tudor, David Tudor and Michael Tudor, along with a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many other family members too numerous to count.
Mother, you will always be in our hearts, and we will never forget you.
We thank God for you. We love you, and we will always be your faithful and devoted children.
