I am now visiting Stanford, which reminds me of him. I attended a workshop in France and had a honor to share a table with Prof. Tze Leung Lai at the banquet. It was a great moment to talk to him about his passion for martingales. A large part of my research work owes to his innovative works in the 1980s. Rest assured.

I took just three courses from Professor Tze during my study of Certificate of Quantitative Methods in Finance at Stanford University from 2018 to 2019. That’s a great program. I am respectful to my professor although we don’t have too much interaction. I was shocked of the news that post on the website. Hope nothing bad really happened and all the best.

I remember one time when he visited Hong Kong, I walked him back to Robert Black College at HKU after the dinner. We stopped in front of Run Run Shaw Building, and Prof. Lai had a long chat with me about research and career. We just stood there and talked until nearly 2am, and he shared lots of inspiring experience and suggestions; I still find them so useful as of today.
I have kept thinking of Prof. Lai from time to time since his departure, especially all the things that he affected me. He was so nice and caring, especially for the next generation, and I myself am certainly one of those who benefit from his guidance.
Thank you, Prof. Lai, and we shall miss you for long.

I was so sorry to hear about Tze's passing. He was such a dedicated and hard-working person (in addition to his intelligence) that he deserves his immerse accomplishments.
