Tyler loved and was committed to his wife and children to the very end.  Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13. I saw very clearly this love playing out in Tyler's life.

On behalf of the Couch family,

I'd like to wish the Stewart family our deepest condolences. We are all praying for Tyler and Family!!

Tyler was one of my favorites of the undergrad researchers in the Gillaspy Lab at Virginia Tech. He was always giving his best effort, loved science, had a big smile, charmed us with delightedly catching a frog at the Horticulture Garden after he took off his shoes and socks and waded into the water, rescued Ashton's frisbee from a huge pine tree during frisbee golf (which caused him to get a big bump on the head), moped miserably when Ashton left town for a job, and then followed her one weekend and became engaged. We went to their wedding! I am devastated that he is gone. He had such an intensity in life.

Charnell Sommers and Tyler ...birthday lunch at UAB
When I think about Tyler, I am drawn to  the quote “be curious not judgmental.” Tyler approached life with a curiosity and thirst for understanding that i admire. He was a kind soul who was quick to welcome. May his spirit live on.
We were so saddened to hear of Tyler’s passing, and are heartbroken for Carter and Mason, Ashton, and the whole Stewart family. One quote that stuck with me after the sudden passing of my loved one is “where there is love, there is life.” We hope that the memories of Tyler and the love you always feel for him will be a blessing and help to keep his spirit and legacy alive for his sons, and among his family, friends and community. -Laura Olsen, Tom Wainwright, and Isaac Aurelia and Sylvie (Mallow Ct neighbors)

No words can express the deep sorrow that  we feel for your loss. We remember Tyler  with his beautiful smile as extremely intelligent, kind, loving,  committed, and  a strong Christian. He will be missed. Mason and Carter were his joys and Ashton, his great love.  Ashton gave him  all the love and support that any wife could possibly provide. He was fortunate to have found her in his brief life.  Praying for peace and comfort.

God bless and  hold you and your boys in His hands.  Jim and Nancy Mixson

My condolences to Tyler's family. I first met Tyler when I was a PhD student myself in UAB. I remember him as a jolly and friendly person and regret that we never stayed in touch after we both moved on after our PhD. The news of him leaving us comes to me as a shock. Please accept my condolences and I hope God gives you and your family the strength and Tyler the joy he bestowed upon many he crossed paths with.
I am so sorry for this incredible loss. My thoughts and love are with you and your children
