Mong Tuyen's obituary

Mong Tuyen was born into the Ho family in Vietnam on June 08, 1962. At the height of the Vietnam War, at the age of 10, Tuyen and her siblings traveled to Casablanca, Morocco to live with her aunt and uncle. She spent her formative years attending schools in Casablanca -- where she developed a keen interest in languages. In the early 80s, Tuyen immigrated to the US, Maryland, to live with her mother and the rest of her family.

Tuyen was an avid reader and a gifted linguist. She mastered 9 languages and was fluent in 4, including French, Arabic, Vietnamese, and English. As a devout Catholic, she often recited scriptures and sang  Hymns in Latin.

Despite being diagnosed with acute renal failure at the age of 18, Tuyen was undeterred in pursuing higher education. Through determination and hard work, she completed a BS degree in Computer Science and Chemistry from the University of Maryland. She moved to Seattle, WA in the late 80s with her partner, Bill Akers, to further his career. They spent 37 years together until Bill's passing in 2015.

Tuyen had a deep, unshakable faith and communion with God. The pain and struggle she endured for over 43 years was transformed into and perceived as an initiation to Divinity. Through it all, she was hopeful, looked for the goodness in life, and never questioned the destiny bestowed upon her. The God’s loving essence that lived in her was her embodiment.

The strength and conviction from within, that devotion and complete surrender to physical suffering, would pave the way to the Lord's heart and grace and that God does nothing without revealing his secret to his faithful followers.

She served the Lord well; she followed him in his footsteps and carried her cross; and for the faithful servant, the Father will so honor.

May her glorious soul rest in peace in eternity.
