Trudie's obituary
On August 24, 1957, Trudie married Edgar Wayne Hyre, also of Bedford, PA, and were together for 63 years. He proceeded her in death on February 6, 2021. Together they raised six children: Angie Hyre Tipton, Pflugerville, TX; Sherry Hyre Newman, Charleston, WV; Troy Wayne Hyre, Grand Island, FL; Tricia Hyre Hunter, DeBary, FL; Misty Hyre Barron, Goose Creek, SC; and Tiffany Hyre Wilkerson, Arvada, CO. She was the proud grandmother of 17 beautiful grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren (with three new additions due this fall). She was proceeded in death by two brothers, Hartley and Dent Claycomb of Bedford, PA, and her only sister, Jeanne Berkey of Phoenix, AR. She is survived by her brother, Connie Claycomb, of Everett, PA.
Trudie spent her life in service to her family as a fulltime mother and homemaker. She attended Daytona Beach Community College, Rollins College and Stetson University where she concentrated her studies on writing and photography. She worked with Wayne as his secretary for a few years when he began his career in the tech industry. She went on to fulfill a life-long ambition of becoming a freelance, published writer and author of a young-adult adventure novel, “Savage Silver” (currently available on Amazon.com) She was an accomplished lecturer in the Volusia County (Florida) area, known for her knowledge of archeology and matters of good health. Trudie was a forever student. She loved reading and researching many subjects and became quite knowledgeable in the areas of archeology, geology and astronomy. She traveled the world with her husband and together they served as timers for NASCAR races held at the Daytona International Speedway. She was best known for her optimistic personality, love of fashion and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for most of her life, Trudie served in many callings, including Relief Society President and Seminary Teacher. She worked as a volunteer at the Family History Center in Deland, FL assisting many people in the tracing of their family genealogy. Her greatest mission in life was to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with as many people as possible.
The family will hold a private celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers, we ask donations be made in her name to Halifax Hospice Care Center, 625 Veterans Memorial Parkway, Orange City, FL 32763.
