Tran's obituary

Tran Berkowitz, passed away at St.Mary Medical Center, Long Beach CA.  

She emigrated from Vietnam to America in 1972 with her husband Gary Berkowitz and lived in Dundalk, Maryland. She was employed at Bethlehem Steel where she often worked double shifts to support her family. 

 Mrs. Berkowitz moved to California in 1985 to care for her mother.

She was an avid learner, having received 10 certificates and degrees in areas ranging from Chemical Engineering to French Culinary (Paris, France).  She last received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from California State University and successfully employed with UCLA hospital for 16 years before retirement. 

She was fluent in Vietnamese, French and English.

Tran loved cooking and was a food connoisseur. She was particularly fond of ice cream, chocolate, Seven-up and pho. Her refrigerator was always stocked with lots of ice cream and bottles of Seven-up.

Tran had a deep appreciation for life. She always struck up conversations with anyone who crossed her path with a smile and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Mrs. Berkowitz is survived by her 7 children, Huong, Chris, Tuyen, Amrit, Xuan, Thuy and Truc Chi; and 8 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. 

 A vigil was placed in her name at St. Bartholomew in Long Beach, CA.
