Tom's obituary
Tom Wang, CPA, 42, of Gaithersburg, Maryland, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2026, after a courageous two-year battle with VIPoma (a pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor). His passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Tom was born on July 20, 1983, in Beijing, China, to Jonathan and Julia Wang. From an early age, he was determined, thoughtful, and quietly ambitious. He graduated from Magruder High School in 2001 and went on to study English at the University of Maryland, College Park, graduating in 2005.
After college, Tom pursued professional poker, a path that reflected his sharp mind, courage, and willingness to take risks. In 2019, he transitioned into accounting, working as a CPA until 2024. He had many talents and was exceptional at everything he put his mind to. He played the piano and guitar and had a beautiful singing voice. Whatever path he chose, Tom approached it with focus, resilience, and a deep sense of responsibility.
In 2013, Tom met Tammy, the love of his life. They were married in 2015 and built a life grounded in devotion and partnership. They loved traveling together — sometimes on their own, and other times with both sets of parents, including cherished trips to Cancun. In 2023, they welcomed their beloved daughter, Taylyn, who became the absolute center of Tom’s world. He was endlessly proud to be her father and poured his heart into providing for and protecting his family. His greatest joy was simply being with Tammy and Taylyn.
Tom was truly a force of nature — driven, steadfast, pragmatic, and fiercely loyal. His family and friends meant more to him than anything, a truth he expressed often and lived out daily. He held high standards for himself and for those around him — in family, friendships, music, work, and even food — because he believed that being part of one another’s lives truly meant something. He fought his illness with remarkable bravery and strength, holding onto hope and love even in the most difficult moments. Though his time was far too short, the depth of his love and commitment will endure forever.
Outside of work and family life, Tom had a deep passion for basketball and could often be found on the court with friends, sharing laughter and competition. Those who knew him will remember his determination, his quiet humor, and the steady presence he brought into every room.
Tom is survived by his loving parents, Jonathan and Julia Wang; his sister, Ruby; his devoted wife, Tammy; and his precious daughter, Taylyn. While his passing brings profound sorrow, his life was one of meaning, love, and unwavering dedication to those he cherished most.
