Tom's obituary
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the peaceful passing of Mr. Tom Carpenter, on May 14, 2025. Born in 1950, Tom was a beloved father, brother, and grandfather, and leaves behind a legacy filled with love, laughter, and an enduring spirit.
Tom is survived by his daughter Kristie Carpenter, his son Tommy Carpenter, his devoted son-in-law, Jorge Da Costa, and his cherished sisters, Dana Oaks and Linda Carter. He found great joy in his treasured grandchildren, Lillian Lorenz, Jason Carpenter, and Matthew Carpenter. Predeceasing Tom were his respected father Dennis Carpenter and loving mother, Bonnie Carpenter.
Tom found passion in his work at the Hospice of West Palm Beach, a journey which started in 2010. A lover of life's simple pleasures, he relished a filet or a piece of carrot cake and never said no to a half cup of coffee or a refreshing Sierra Mist. Music from Elvis Presley, Gillian Welch, The Highwaymen, and Norah Jones were favorites of his, while Scrabble and Solitaire filled his leisure time. Austin City Limits, the Hee Haw Show, and Stephen Colbert were sources of humor, joy, and inspiration to him.
Known for his endearing spirit and zest for life, Tom was often found riding his 1953 MG or his motorcycle. With a heart full of adventure, he cherished the Florida Keys and found comfort in his local haunt, Rafferty's. Generous in spirit, he championed the causes of Manna Cafe and St. Jude's Children's Hospital. His life was best characterized by his friendliness, humor, humility, and a sprinkle of mischievousness.
Throughout his life, Tom shared valuable lessons about the importance of hard work, self-responsibility, and integrity. His impressive accomplishments include restoring a 1953 MG, building guitars and a harp, successfully changing careers in his 30's, and caring for his family. His legacy will remain one of living life on one's terms, enjoying simple pleasures, caring for family, and having an entertaining sense of humor. He will always be remembered for his unique Eastern Kentucky sayings and colloquialisms, along with his terrific smile.
