Todd's obituary

Todd Denison Heyda (otherwise known as Hollywood, Toddy, Dad, Coach and Pro) died on May 13, 2020. He was 67 and resided in Briarcliff Manor, NY. Todd was born in Denver, Colorado on January 13th, 1953 to Robert Charles and Beth (Moorhead) Heyda. Todd spent most of his childhood in White Plains, New York and graduated from Carson Long Military Academy in Bloomfield PA, where he played football, tennis and was a member on the gymnastics team. (Anyone that knew Todd in the early years, was often greeted by one of his back flips).

Todd spent many years in the caddie house at Westchester Hills Country Club, and he played on the golf team at his alma mater, Salem College in West Virginia. where he graduated. Golf was his true love, an industry that employed him for most of his career. In his early years, he worked at courses in Arizona where he trained for the mini golf tour, was hired as an Assistant Golf Pro at Briar Hall Country Club in Briarcliff Manor, NY and then Mahopac Golf Club where he spent the next 25 years as the Head Pro. During his tenure, he became a PGA Golf Professional and continued to play in local and satellite tour events, winning his first mini -tour event in California in the early 80’s.

Todd was a great friend to all and a true mentor. He taught life lessons to so many young people which he would call “tough love”. He led by example, was a good listener and had a true zest for life. He loved the outdoors and his favorite spot was camping at Lake Pharaoh in the Adirondacks where he would frequent with many close friends and his faithful companion Putter. He was often referred to as Jeremiah Johnson. He was St. Theresa’s CYO Basketball Coordinator in Briarcliff Manor for 8 years and was the head coach for all four of his children’s basketball teams from 1999-2010. Many of those teams were Westchester County Champs which he was so proud of and loved to talk about. His favorite moments were watching his children play sports. He was a proud father but also a fan of every player. He was always about the greater good.

Todd will be remembered for his wildly entertaining stories, his sports tours of the Tuttle Road basement, his generous smile and his willingness to help any friend in need.

His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his ex-wife and friend, Elaine Heyda, adoring children, Courtney, (Kyle) Sevy, Jamie, (Richard) Nardi, Kasey, (Demetri) soon to be Kringas, and Matthew. He also leaves behind his mother-in-law, Rosemarie Coppola, numerous brother and sister in laws, many nieces and nephews and his brother, Mark Heyda.

A celebration of Todd’s life will be held at a future date. Because of Todd’s love for the outdoors, donations can be made to The Adirondack Mountain Club in honor of Todd Heyda at ADK.org or by mail to 814 Goggins Road Lake George, New York 12845

In Todd’s words, “Y’all come back, hear?” Rest in paradise Todd, Dad. Enjoy your days back playing golf.
