Todd's obituary

With great sadness we share that our beloved Todd David Alterman “The T” went home to be with Jesus on October 03, 2022 after braving a two year battle with cancer. He is dearly loved and will be dearly missed by so many.

Todd was born to Allen and Carolyn Alterman on July 07, 1963 in Detroit MI. In his early years his favorite activities were hanging out with friends, riding and working on dirt bikes, playing tennis, skiing and much more as he was an avid athlete. He became a Christian as a teenager, and loved God and church his whole life long. He attended Plymouth Salem High School and after graduating in ‘81 he continued his education at Schoolcraft College. Soon afterward he moved to upstate New York, where he discovered a love for the area. He joined a church and was married there, beginning a family and staying for a few years before returning to Michigan. Todd fathered three beautiful children and was a family man through and through. He loved to travel and was always looking for new adventures to share together.

Todd rode in and won many motocross races for years, and riding was always a pure source of joy in his life. He also spent a lot of time riding his bikes on road trips with friends. Riding motorcycles and driving the coolest cars continued to be a passion for him and a motivation to get back on his feet again.

He wore many hats over the course of his career, driving for FedEx, working for motorcycle dealerships, and more, but he was mainly focused on the craft of upholstery, at which he was the best around, requiring nothing less than excellence of himself. He maintained his very successful business Jacob Todd Designs in Charlevoix, MI where he lived. He garnered respect and loyalty from his customers as well as many friends there.

Todd had a passion for music and attended concerts as often as he could. He learned many instruments over the years, including drums, bass, acoustic and electric guitar, and he had an incredible singing voice which he used at every opportunity. He joined the worship teams at his churches, as well as performing in concerts and plays.

In 2020, Todd met Abigail, his wife of almost a year. They made plans to move back to the Adirondacks in New York, and make a life for themselves in the same town and community he loved 30+ years ago. Todd was a loyal servant to God, first and foremost, and lived to praise Him. He loved the church and had a faithful servant’s heart toward all people.

Todd joins his father Allen, his sister Debbie, and Jim Curnett in Heaven. He is survived by many loving family members, including his wife Abigail, his children Jessi Alterman and Zac Minock, Jacob Alterman, and Emily Alterman. As well as his mother Carolyn Alterman, his brother Mike Alterman, his sister Cathy Cox and her husband Joe Cox.

A verse Todd loved and longed to live by…

“He has shown all you people what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God” - Micah 6:8
