An act of kindness, I believe it was Tony's 65 or 66 birth day. I went out with him and a fue of his close friends for dinner. But for someone I have only met maybe 3 times before bought dinner for everyone. For me I was blessed to have meet a man so passionate about life. Toby for the short time that I have known him it felt as if I had known him a lifetime.

I just can't seem to face the fact that Toby's really gone. I would give anything to be able to to see him again. It's like I didn't realize what an impacted he made on my heart. I mean I knew I cared for him and he was my friend, but I feel so lost inside like when my Dad died. I love you Toby. I will never ever forget you. You will live on through me that's for sure my friend. I just don't understand how anyone could do what they did to you. I hope who ever took your life suffers everyday for the rest of there's. How ducking dare you take my friend.

When we met one of the first things he asked me was if I had any pets and I said "yes I had a cat". Then he asked me the name of my cat and I said "Her name is Niña" then he replied that his cat's name was Pinta and we only needed to look for the Santa María and immediatley our cats became sister cats. I got to know Pinta for 2 years after that day and she was a Super Cat that lived 23 years. Niña is still living with me and she was in Tobys words "our daughter". One of Toby's instructions to me was to always Love her, Feed her and Pet her which I do everyday and in doing so I can feel Toby smiling saying "Praise God for Niña" and I say "Praise God for Toby"
Thank you baby God bless you forever and may you now be with him watching over us.

I'm thinking of Tobys family during this difficult time. I'm sending healing prayers to all that loved him. He was such a beautiful man inside and out.
Toby was a tremendous loss to his community and to his friends. I did love him dearly.
He helped me in many ways for just a spell. Although I only knew him for a short time, he helped me during a very tough time in my life.
He gave me shelter, food & advice. I'll never forget him.
I will be unable to attend services because I moved to Washington State. I am unable to fly there in time.
Regrettably,
Cyndi Rive

Toby was the "Brother" I never had. Both of us are "only child's" and I thought many times and even told Toby once that he was the closest thing to a brother I had. I first met Toby around 1981-1982 at my home in Altadena. A year or so after that I mentioned in conversation with Toby that I had to move and he responded immediately with, "do you wanna live here?" referring to his little house on Allen St. in Pasadena. I worked at Caltech at that time and it was a perfect location. My "room" was a camper setting on milk crates in the driveway. Toby referred to my room as a "split-level condo".
We had many common interests including motorcycles (I had a Triumph 650cc) military aircraft, (we went to many airshows together) private aircraft. We both especially loved the Cessna 210 Centurion. Several years later I began flight training and Toby was my first passenger. I actually took him up BEFORE I had my pilots license. Very recently, Toby asked if I still had a pilot's license. (all I need to do is pass a flight medical exam). The reason he asked was that he was thinking of buying a Cessna 210 and he needed a pilot! Obviously, I was very enthusiastic and thought I better encourage Toby to start shopping for a 210.
In the years in between I flew with Toby to several places including Las Vegas, Catalina, Mojave, Big Bear, etc. Each one of those flights has special memories. Toby shared my enthusiasm for flight. I will miss him greatly for the rest of my life.

My condolences to Toby's family. I first met Toby when he moved onto Allen Ave. into the rear house around '75 or '76. He had his truck and camper a Harley and Triumph chopper. We were both into bikes, trucks, and mechanics so we hit it off immediately. Living next to Toby for so many years we knew each other very well. The stories I could tell would crash this site! lol One thing we all know is the type of person Toby was at heart. He was kind and caring beyond measure, always ready to help the full distance, and always ready to laugh and smile. Thinking back to those days I have to mention an orange stray cat that Toby adopted, "Charlie Cat" as Toby dubbed him. Toby had a lot of friends and they would sometimes buy toys and go on the "Toys for Tots" run with stuffed animals fixed on their motorcycles. Now, in my early 70's, I often look back to those shared years on Allen Ave. with Toby and all the "unique" people who knew Toby and say "Those are some of the best times in my life". I had started my glass business out of a one car garage near Toby's and always enjoyed Toby and his friends coming in to see what I was doing, giving comments and encouraging me in my work. It was unfair to have prematurely lost such a special long time friend this way. I will always think back on our friendship with a smile and some of the best memories. PS: Toby was a very skilled truck driver. He would back his Casa Blanca Peterbilt tracker truck into the narrow driveway to wash it, while other residents in cars sometimes took several tries. Love you man!
