Timothy's obituary

Timothy Michael Yunker lived his life exactly the way he wanted, in full throttle, with laughter turned up loud and love poured generously.

Timothy was born on August 4, 1961, to Charles and Mary Rose Yunker, one of ten children in a family that taught him early how to stand out, hold his own, and love big. On January 29, 2026, he passed surrounded by those he loved, fittingly to the tune of “Volcano” by Jimmy Buffett, because of course he did!

Tim was an artist through and through, most famously expressed in the kitchen. A chef with undeniable passion, he cooked everywhere from five star restaurants in El Paso, where he once served the President of the United States, to country clubs, to his own home or family gatherings, where even French toast became something special! He was always proud of his work and excited to share his passion, eager to teach others and watch them enjoy what he created.

His artistry did not stop at food. Tim’s personal style was unmistakably his own, often topped with a colorful bandana, and his creativity came alive every fall when he carved intricate pumpkins, transforming them into presidents, Addams Family characters, and icons from classic horror films.

Tim loved a good game of frisbee golf and online poker. He cherished trips to casinos with his wife, April La Rue, and some of his favorite moments were the quiet ones. Taking walks, sitting by the waterfront listening to music, and offering his thoughtful and often humorous critiques of food trends.

Above all, Tim was proud to be his daughter Hannah’s daddy. He loved reading her Dr. Seuss books, pushing her on the swings, and showing up with the kind of presence that made you feel safe, seen, and endlessly loved.

Timothy is survived by his wife April La Rue, his daughter Hannah Alvarez, her husband Andrew, and his beloved grandson Jaxon, along with his remaining siblings and many nieces and nephews who will forever carry his stories, laughter, and spirit.

He was the kind of man who stood out for bringing the energy and the laughter. A joyful mess, full of love for his family! Tim will be waiting for his wife under the covered bridge where they were married, exactly where love met laughter and never let go.
