Background
Tim was unfortunately diagnosed with cancer of unknown primary (CUP). It is a rare condition that occurs when cancer cells spread to other parts of the body, but the original site of the cancer is unknown. It occurs in around 2%-6% of all cancers diagnosed in the US.
Dr. Roychowdhury was referred to help with Tim's specific case. His lab works on treatments utilizing genomics. Since CUP is unknown, it is hard to know where to treat it. Typically, doctors will just do a generic treatment in hopes that it will help somewhat. Dr. Roychowdhury, instead, will look at specific genes for treatment. His goal is to no longer refer to cancers based on their organ (e.g., Lung Cancer) but instead to a molecular-based classification. Contribute
