Tim's obituary
“Your love is ever before me, and I walk continually in Your truth.”
Psalm 26:3
Timothy Morgan Otte passed away November 20, 2024, at the age of 69. He was a resident of Acworth, Georgia, where he lived with his daughter, Megan Rikard, and her family. Tim was an active member of the congregation at Marietta First United Methodist Church and a beloved figure at the local LA Fitness. He always had a warm smile and a kind word to share with friends and strangers.
Although Tim is gone, his thoughtful and generous spirit will live on in our hearts forever.
Tim was born on January 21, 1955 in Boston, MA.
He is survived by his daughter Megan Rikard and husband Brad; son Jeffrey Otte and wife Brandy; brother Earl Otte; and grandchildren, Lilli Radford, Blaire and William Otte, and Riley and Grayson Rikard. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Debbie Otte (2009) and his brother, Richard Otte (2024).
Tim grew up in Framingham, MA with parents Billy and Rosella and two brothers, Richard and Earl. The family moved to Burnsville, MN in 1970 when Billy took employment with Pillsbury Corporation. He was part of the very first Burnsville High School soccer team and was elected team captain in his senior year, graduating in 1972.
Tim attended the University of Minnesota, majoring in Theatre Arts. During his time at the U he took a job as stage manager and lighting technician at the Camelot Dinner Theatre in Bloomington, MN where he met his future wife, Deborah Tice, who was one of the performers. Tim and Debbie were married in 1978 in Plymouth, MN.
After graduation, Tim decided to go back to school for a master’s degree in Business Administration at St Thomas University. He then embarked on a career in Business, working as an Accountant, Purchasing Agent and CFO at various national companies, including Steak and Ale Inc, Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club, Friedman’s Jewelers, Men’s Wearhouse, Linens and Things, Kirklands, and Michaels Corporation, before finally retiring in 2019.
Tim and Debbie moved quite a bit in their marriage as Tim's career advanced and he took new opportunities. They lived in Texas, Arkansas, Georgia, and New Jersey. While in Georgia, Debbie was diagnosed with lung cancer. They decided to move back to Dallas so Debbie could be closer to her lifelong friends and church connections. It was there that she passed away in 2009 after a long battle.
After Debbie's passing, Tim moved to Anthem, Arizona where he was very involved in his church and developed many lifelong friends. Tim loved to hike, play golf, and travel around the world on various cruises.
In 2021, Tim was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and made the decision to move to Atlanta to live with his daughter Megan and her family. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, helping around the house, playing with their dogs, going to the gym, and attending church services.
Tim had a particular love of traveling. He flew to the United Kingdom to trace his family roots, traversed the windy roads of Ireland to kiss the Blarney Stone, and trekked to Pinehurst, NC where he played a round of golf in a hurricane. Tim also traveled to Europe, Asia, and Australia while working for Sam’s Club, finding locations for new stores. He hiked through the Swiss Alps, frequented US National Parks, and trained for a climb up to base camp at Mount Everest, a dream quelled by the earthquake in 2015.
Tim had a deep and abiding love for all of his friends and family, and enjoyed taking care of them and making them smile even as he approached the end of his journey. Even his final visits with doctors and nurses were punctuated with laughter as Tim cracked jokes and made wry observations to his visitors.
Megan and Jeff are so grateful to the family, friends, neighbors, and caregivers, who, with their compassion, love, and support, brought joyful moments to Tim to the very end of his journey.
A memorial service will be held at Marietta First United Methodist Church in Marietta on January 18, 2025 at 11:00 a.m.
