Once upon a time, a guy with a big smile and a firm handshake pulled up to the tennis courts where I worked. He and his two children wanted to have fun and play tennis for the afternoon. Who knew that encounter one day in the Bay would mean a move to the Murphy household in Ennismore for school, hockey, friendships and some key tips on my way to becoming a teacher. I will forever cherish the kindness and generosity, as an adopted Murphy clan member, from Tim, Sue, Heather and Tyler during that hectic, fun and exciting year on Myers Crescent!

As neighbours from Ennismore, Siobhan and I visited Tim and Bertha at their place in Naples. What I remember most: Tim's incredible enthusiasm, his love for Bertha and a genuine joy for life shared with family and friends. He embraced his time on earth and savoured, each and every experience. One afternoon we chartered a boat to tour the canals and homes of Naples. Knowing that Tim and Bertha enjoyed being on the water, we asked them to join us. Over dinner, he was still giddy with the experience and so glad we had invited them to see Naples from the water. Another night, we joined them for a performance of the local symphony; with eyes closed and head keeping subtle tempo, you could tell he was hearing every note with boundless appreciation. He enjoyed a good joke and was only too willing to share a lifetime of stories, from the classroom to work to people he knew and met. We have now lost Tim twice: once when he moved to the States and now to life's other journey. To Bertha and their shared families, our deepest condolences. One measure of a man is his legacy: of a life well lived, hearts and lives touched and a world made just a little bit better. For his friendship and the gift of his legacy, we are truly grateful. On behalf of the Gideons in Peterborough, we are sorry to hear of your father's passing.
He warmly welcomed us each year that we brought the Gideon Testaments to his Grade 5 class, and, any other children in a Grade 5-split...making sure each child paid attention.
We missed him when he retired, and, will miss him the more, now.
We are grateful for his kindnesses when he was at St. Martin's, it was A L W A Y S a joy to go to his
Grade 5 class.
May God give you all as special comfort during this time.
Blessings, sincerely.
Gord Young

My deepest sympathy to all of Tim’s family and loved ones. Tim and I taught together for many years at St. Martin school in Ennismore. I watched as Heather and Tyler grew from very small children into wonderful adults. Tim was so incredibly proud of both of them and he regularly shared their accomplishments with our staff. The years we taught together were filled with so many staff socials and lots of humour. I am sad to hear of Tim’s passing and will keep his family in my prayers 🙏

My deepest and heartfelt condolences to Heather and Tyler. Tim was a great friend of mine and an even better friend to my late wife, Susan (nee Baldassarra), and was MC at our wedding in Ennismore in 1999.

As an O.P.P. Constable assigned to the Detachment's Zone 3, I first met Tim Murphy at St. Martin's School when I would visit the school and its various classrooms & students. I developed not only a good rapport with students, but with staff members as well. I remember most that Mr. Murphy was a friendly, genuine and personable man, very dedicated to his teaching profession. He always took the time to chat. Although a few years have now passed in retirement, I remember very well our last meeting. It was in 2014, lunch in Naples Florida. I was staying in Fort Myers and Tim was insistent that we meet while we were both enjoying winter in the Sunshine State. I am shocked to learn of his passing, and I offer my condolences to the entire Murphy family during this time of bereavement. Sorry to learn Mr. Murphy's journey on earth has come to a premature end.

Sorry for your loss Mr Murphy who later in life always wanted me to call him Tim was an amazing teacher and coach. Wether it was volleyball or tack and field he knew how get get the best out of all of us. Years later after I graduated he would come into Jesse’s tap and grill and we always had great conversations. I still couldn’t call him Tim out of the respect I had for him. Mr Murphy you will be missed.

There are so many wonderful memories that I have with my Dad. Some of my favourites are of our times spent as kids headed up to Gram’s on Carson Lake and in Algonquin Park. We were truly blessed to have such an amazing place to get away to growing up!
