Timothy's obituary

Timothy Lee Engle, known as Tim, Timmy or Timmer to his loved ones, completed his earthy journey on February 14, 2025 following a years long battle with dementia.

Tim was born January 9, 1951 to Walter and Catherine Engle. He was the second of their six children. Tim was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. Tim joined the U.S. Navy in October of 1969 and served until August of 1971 when he was honorably discharged.

In 1974 Tim met and married the love of his life, Janet Loudon. He immediately gained a daughter, Shannon Marie, whom he legally adopted. Tim was a devoted father to his only child, and was thrilled to add a son (in law) and three grandsons to the family in 1999 when Shannon married. He would go on to have 11 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

The family lived in Northglenn, Colorado where Tim served as a volunteer firefighter for many years, in addition to his job at the Coors brewery in Golden, Colorado. He coached several of Shannon’s youth basketball teams, and was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church community. He was happy, too, to help Janet care for her special charge, Erin Wennberg, who became his bonus daughter.

In 1984 the family relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada, where Tim began a career in the gaming industry eventually working his way up to floor supervisor.

Tim loved sports and was an avid follower of his Denver Broncos and USC Trojans. He was always happy to have a fishing rod in one hand and a cold beer in the other. He also enjoyed dancing and could often be found on the dance floor at a party or a pub. He was unfailingly kind and jovial, always ready to share a laugh and lend a hand to anyone who needed it.

After their retirement, Tim and Janet became full time RVers. They enjoyed traveling the country and catching up with old friends and relatives on their travels. Unfortunately their travels were cut short by Janet’s various heath challenges. Tim became her devoted caregiver through 4 joint replacement surgeries and her cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Tim was formally diagnosed with dementia a few weeks after Janet’s death. He spent a few years in a memory care facility, but lived the last 5 months at home with his daughter and son in law by his side.

Tim was preceded in death by, and is once again reunited with, his beloved wife, Janet, his parents, Walter and Catherine, his parents-in-law, William and Carolyn Loudon, and his younger brother, Theodore (Teddy) Engle.

He is survived by his cherished family: daughter, Shannon Engle Carlson, son-in-law, Carl Carlson, his grandsons, Brandon (Brittany) Carlson, Justin (Jessica) Carlson and Austin (Ryan) Carlson, his 11 great grandchildren, Alorah, Hiero, Alyssah, Everett, Caitlin, Carlee, Maverick, Brandon, Ellie, Ivy and Sayler Carlson and his great-great grandson, Kingston.

He is also survived by his sisters, Tammy (Scott) Burns and Tracy (Robert) Redding, his brothers, Thomas Engle and Terry Engle along with his 10 nieces and nephews, many great nieces and nephews, and his bonus daughter, Erin Wennberg.

There will be a service held at the Riverside National Cemetery on April 25, 2025 at 1:00pm. We will also be doing a celebration of life in Colorado sometime in May. In lieu of flowers, please donate to any animal rescue charity of your choice. Tim was a great lover of all the critters and would be honored by such a gift.
