Timothy's obituary

Timothy Scott Dieter, 66, passed away peacefully on February 13th, 2026 after a hard fought battle with rectal cancer.

A lifelong Portlander, Tim was born to Melvin Dieter and Joyce Ackley on April 21,1959 as the youngest of three. He attended Madison High School (Class of ‘77) where he became a three-sport athlete (football, wrestling and track) and the leading man in the theatre department (Our Town, Camelot, Gaslight, Little Mary Sunshine).

After graduation he attended Central Washington before transferring to his beloved University of Oregon. He knew he wanted to pursue a Master’s Degree and joined the US Army Reserve to fund it.

Soon after returning to civilian life, Tim met his first wife Lynn Roseboro at the Horse Brass Pub. They had their first child Erik Thomas in 1986 followed by Kurt David in 1988.

Tim started teaching social studies and theatre at Cleveland High School in January 1987 and continued to pursue a Master’s Degree at the University of Portland. He and Lynn split in 1990. In 1992 he married Diane Olson; the two met at the University of Portland and later fell in love over their shared appreciation of the theatre arts. Their son, Cameron John, was born in 1993.

Tim taught at Cleveland High School for several years before becoming a contractor and salesperson in the hardwood floor industry. His retirement years were filled with cheesemaking, heartbreaking Oregon football losses, and long afternoons in his backyard garden.

Tim is survived by his wife, Diane; eldest child, Erik; sons Kurt (Sammi Olson) and Cameron (Marie Meroney); siblings Terrence (Nancy) and Susan (Tom Gauntt); grandson, Isaac Dieter; granddaughter due in July; several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life is set for March 14th, 2026 at The Social Good Place (4511 SE Main St, Portland, OR, 97215) at 10 am. Celebratory toast to follow.
