Thuat's obituary
Thuật Thị Bành was a beloved great-grandmother, grandmother, mother, wife and friend during her incredible 94 years of life. The youngest of 11 siblings, she was born on April 2nd, 1927 in Cantho, Vietnam. Before coming to America in 1981, life was very hard. She raised 9 children while also having to help her husband run a dry goods grocery store.
The Communists took over South Vietnam in 1975, and half of the family was forced to relocate to the countryside, farming to make ends meet. The other half of the family stayed in the city just trying to survive. As times were getting tougher, they were determined to find a way to escape Vietnam in search for freedom in America. It took splitting into 4 groups and over 6 total attempts. Fortunately, she reunited with all 9 children and her husband Co Ma in 1988 in Wichita, Kansas.
Thuật had a vibrant soul and lived a full life. She cared deeply for her family, loved to cook, swim, fish, sew quilts, garden, and care for pets. She was active all her life and as late as last year she still routinely took multiple walks a day. She is survived by her 9 children and their families, including 23 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and another due any day now.
She was radiant and had a deeply kind soul. Her smile was infectious, the sparkle in her eyes never dulled, and she made every person feel uniquely special even if it was just asking them “have you had anything to eat”. She lived a life of sacrifice to give us all a better life. The heartbeat of our family will be forever remembered and we find solace knowing her soul is at peace.
