Thomas's obituary

Thomas Alan Wallingford passed away on February 15, 2024.

Tom was the husband to loving and devoted wife, Priscilla Baker Wallingford; father of David (Stefny) Wallingford and Kimberly (Andrew) Pittman; grandfather of Reagan Pittman, McKenna Pittman, Jessica Wallingford & Ryan Wallingford; older brother of Craig Wallingford.

Thomas was born on January 5, 1945 to Jeannette and John Thomas Wallingford in Oak Park, Illinois.

After graduating high school at Shawnee Mission East in 1963, he went on to study history at The University of Kansas.  While at KU, he met his future wife, Priscilla Baker.  Upon graduation from KU in 1967, Tom started law school at The University of Missouri - Kansas City.

Tom and Priscilla were married on June 8th, 1968 at The Village Presbyterian Church of Prairie Village, Kansas. Shortly after getting married, law school was interrupted to begin officers training for the United States Air Force in Texas.

While stationed at Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois, he and Priscilla welcomed their son, David, in 1970. During his time at the AFB, he completed an MBA from The University of Illinois Urbana - Champaign in a program that allowed him to take weekend classes. Their daughter, Kimberly, was also born in Champaign, Illinois in 1972.

Tom was discharged from the service in 1973 and moved the family to Kansas City, Missouri. That same year he returned to UMKC to finish law school and received his Juris Doctor in 1975.

The majority of Tom's career was as a trust officer, with 20 years at Commerce Trust Company. The last position he held was Executive Vice President with Country Club Trust Company. Tom retired in 2015.

Tom was a lifelong fan of KU basketball, often traveling the country with friends to watch them play in tournaments. Having spent the majority of his life in the Kansas City area, he had many friends that he kept in touch with, some since high school and even elementary school.

He loved the outdoors and their vacation home in Woodland Park, Colorado. The family has fond memories of trips to Yellowstone, Grand Teton and Rocky Mountains national parks. Along with traveling, he enjoyed hiking, skiing, disc golf, tennis and spending time working on the lawn while listening to KC Royals games. He had a passion for music, from Bob Dylan to Fleetwood Mac. In his later years, Tom loved being with his grandchildren. He was a dog lover, especially scotties and wire fox terriers.

Tom's humor and his enthusiasm for life will be missed, as well as his words of wisdom that could instantly put things into perspective.
