Thomas's obituary

In the early morning hours of Tuesday, February 18th our dear dad and husband, Thomas J. Sonaty, passed away unexpectedly after suffering a heart attack. While he claimed to be a man of few words, he continuously betrayed that anti-social image by engaging in conversation with strangers, friends, or dogs on a daily basis. He never met a pup he didn't like, or a baby who didn't get a big smile and wave from him.

Tom (lovingly referred to as Tommy by childhood friends and family), was born and raised in Indiana. He spent summers driving backroads and listening to all the great bands of the 70's and 80's. He eventually met and married his wife and best friend, Linda, and migrated south to Joplin, Missouri where they stayed and raised three children.

Known to many for his unfailing sense of direction and love of a paper Atlas, it only made sense for Tom to drive an ambulance for a living. After working in construction for many years, he joined Newton County Ambulance and worked for over 20 years as an EMT. He made a positive impact on the community he served and all those who were lucky enough to work with him.

Tom will be remembered for many things: his impeccable style, an impressive hat collection, his remarkable tolerance for spicy food, but most of all, he will be remembered for his kindness and generosity. He was preceded in death by his mother and father (Ernest and Donna Sonaty) and brother (Danny Sonaty). His thrifty, quick-witted spirit can be found in all those he is survived by: Wife (Linda Sonaty), three children, (Emily Sonaty (partner Dino Sengthavorn)), (Spencer Sonaty (fiancée Kelly Suman)), (Griffin Sonaty (wife Gail Sonaty)), grandson (Thaddeus Thomas Sonaty), brother (Ronnie Sonaty) and sister-in-law (Sharon Sonaty).
