Greetings! We look forward to seeing you all on Saturday, November 8th at 12:00 pm (3rd Floor of the International Pavilion at TIEC). There will be signage pointing you in the right direction.
Our event will begin at 12:00 pm, and while our family will not have a formal receiving line, we will all be easily identifiable by our dark green and white name tags that we will be wearing that day.
When you arrive, we encourage you to please do the following:
* Make yourself a name tag (if you already have one that you wear for business/work purposes or at church, then feel free to wear one of those, as it will save you time from having to make one).
* Grab a glass of wine or beer at the bar (water, tea, and coffee will be available as well), and then help yourselves to food. We will have an assortment of high top tables if you prefer to stand and eat - as well as round tables with seats, if that is your preference.
* While we do not currently have a formal agenda for the event, I anticipate that Shields’ Dad (Tom Fletcher) will offer a welcome and blessing/prayer around 12:30 pm; which will be followed up by remarks from several of our family members.
* After our family shares some words, we will have an additional mic that we will pass around for any guests who feel compelled to share a favorite memory that they have of Shields.
Once we wrap those up, feel free to hang out as long as your schedule allows. TIEC is hosting another big event in the same location at 3 pm; however, after that we will probably continue the “celebration” downstairs in the Silver Spoon Saloon, which has activities that include:
Duckpin Bowling (Shields’ fav), Axe Throwing, Race Car & Sports Simulators, Pool Tables, etc.https://www.resort.tryon.com/…
TIEC will also be hosting a horse show that day,
(Young Horse Show: Region 2 Finals & Pony National Finals), which is another fun/free option if you are looking for something to do for the remainder of the afternoon.https://www.resort.tryon.com/…
Additionally, there are a variety of cute shops and restaurants worth checking out, especially “WNC Main Street”, which is located only one floor below Shields’ Celebration of Life - on the second floor of the International Pavilion. There you can shop & support many of the small businesses who were impacted by Hurricane Helene from Chimney Rock, Lake Lure, Hendersonville, and Asheville. Many have temporarily located in the International Pavilion while recovery and rebuilding efforts in their communities continue.
