Thomas's obituary
Thomas (Tom) Hughes Salzman passed away at the age of 68 in the morning hours of May 12th. Thomas was born April 20th 1956 in Bloomington Illinois to Lois Salzman and Warren Salzman. Both of whom preceded him in passing.
Thomas went to Bloomington High School and graduated in 1974, then attended Illinois State University where he would graduate in 1979. After college Thomas would go on to work for Motorola, Coopers and Lybrand, before landing back at ISU where he would become an IT Auditor. On top of that career Thomas also has a passion for teaching and landed a job with MIS Training Institute. He would not only teach courses but also create and write his own courses as well. While with MIS he would travel around the world and across the United States.
Thomas is survived by his wife Debora Helgeson, Thomas was more than a devoted husband but also was a loving, caring, supportive father to Holly, Evan, and Ashley (previous marriage) and a loving step father to Kris, Kim, Nick, and Jonathan. Thomas cared and loved his whole family including his daughter in laws Michelle and Amanda and adored his son's girlfriend Katie. Thomas also took great pride in being the best grandparent ( 7 grandkids) or better known as Papa. Before he became an endearing father Thomas was a caring loving brother and brother in law to Matt Salzman and Lori and uncle to B.J. Salzman.
Thomas was adored by many and easily made friends no matter where he went and no matter what he did. He was a bright soul that lit up any place he walked in. Besides being a loving father Thomas would also become a coach for his kids indoor and traveling soccer teams. Thomas was an avid biker, bubble gum ice cream enthusiast, and adventurous wanderer. If he wasn't going on a spur of the moment trip you could find Thomas playing Ticket to Ride, spending time with family, asking people random trivia questions, thrifting, or jamming out to Jimmy Buffet. Thomas was a man full of wisdom and amazing stories and was never shy of offering a helping hand or some wise words to help people out.
