Tom's obituary
Thomas E. Ross, Jr. - or Tom as we all knew him - was born on October 8, 1952 in Columbia, SC. He passed away in his home, at the age of 71, under the phenomenal care of Prisma Health Home Hospice, on January 30, 2024. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Kendall, Dr. Jenkins and all the amazing on-call nurses who played such an important role in making Tom comfortable, and giving him one final, blissful, and peaceful week with us.
Tom led a full life, becoming a CPA at an early age, managing his own firm, laughing and loving, and just generally living life on his own terms. He leaves behind a loving and devoted wife, sister, and family spanning two sons, two daughters-in-law, one daughter, seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.
In 2016, Tom received a double lung transplant which gave him almost 8 extra years. Tom felt so blessed, not only by his amazing donor and his donor's family who gave him such a priceless and generous gift, but also by the magnificent lung transplant team at MUSC (Medical University of Charleston) who provided such outstanding care for the rest of his life.
In April 2023, however, Tom was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer, a common complication with solid organ transplants. His cancer was coupled with new heart issues, and between his transplant and an inoperable heart blockage, there were no options for treating his cancer. He was hospitalized four times between June 2023 and January 2024, and after the last stay, our entire family joined Tom in choosing comfort and hospice, which made all the difference in the world to all of us.
Our hearts break but Tom suffered so much, for so long, that we cannot selfishly wish for anything other than the peaceful rest that he has finally gotten, and so we bid him a Final Farewell. "For you are beautiful. And I have loved you dearly, more dearly than the spoken word can tell."
