Mr. Thomas Daniel Murphy, or “Tom’, 62, joined his companion Patti Beard in eternal rest on Friday June 4th, 2021. Born in Augusta, GA, Tom was the son of the late Martha and Thomas Murphy, where he is survived by his four sisters Kathryn “Kitty” Garrett, Cecilia “Cissy” Bowden, and Patricia and Susan Murphy. Longtime resident of the CSRA, Tom was a hardworking man, widely known for his specialized skill in exterior home improvement. Aside from being a dedicated worker, he utmost enjoyed outside activities such as fishing and playing ball with his dog, Sosa, who is known to be his favorite drinking buddy, and nonetheless, his best friend. Tom was an amazing father to his daughter, Shaina Murphy, especially after the passing of their mother Patti in 2016. He selflessly continued the journey of fatherhood, loving and supporting his daughter to the fullest until the moment his fight with cancer came to an end. In addition to his daughter, Tom was blessed with two stepchildren, Lacy Shuster and Joshua Mote, who he loved and cared for as his own for the majority of their lives. Overall, Tom was a goofy, but big-hearted man, who would generously give the shirt of his back to anyone, if he knew they needed it.
In addition to his parents, siblings, and children, Tom is survived by his “partner in crime”, Tammy Osborne Sowers, as well many nieces, nephews, cousins, and grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his niece Angela as well as two grandsons.
In accordance with his wishes, Tom has donated his body to the Research Program at Augusta University Hospital, where they will have him cremated and returned to family after research has been conducted. The family would like to thank the Oncology team at AU Health, as well as the nurses from Trinity Hospice of Aiken who facilitated his end of life care, providing great comfort and care to Tom as well as his family.
A celebration of life will be held at Clarks Hill Lake towards the end of June. The family will announce exact location, day and time of celebration soon after reservations are finalized.
