Thomas's obituary
He enlisted in the US Navy after graduation, and proudly served his country from 1967 to 1971 as a navigator on the nuclear submarine USS James Monroe.
He briefly studied Marine Sciences at Florida Tech after his time in the service and continued to have a lifelong love for the ocean, nature, and fishing. He had a particular fondness for striper fishing from the shore in New Hampshire and southern Maine.
He fell in love with and married Mary Beth Weygant (formerly Hughes) of Wiccopee, NY in 1974. They had two daughters together, Kelly and Lorri. He taught the girls to fish and canoe and passed on his sense of adventure and irreverent humor. Tom and Mary Beth parted ways in 1984 and he never remarried.
Tom was a talented craftsman. He worked as a carpenter for 30 years in upstate New York and New Hampshire. In his free time he enjoyed woodworking, drawing, and painting. He had an artist's sensitive soul that came through in the many beautiful carvings, paintings, sculptures, and pieces of furniture he created.
He was an avid reader, a family trait, and had great passion for books and learning. His favorite authors, Hemingway, Michener, and Mattheissen wrote about adventure and the sea.
Thomas is survived by his daughters: Kelly, her husband John Dallara, and two granddaughters Ella and Jenna who reside in Wappingers Falls, NY. Lorri and her husband Sean Efferson of Big Sky, MT. As well as his younger sister Julia Lagerbloom Sadler and niece Lilly Sadler Van Houten. A private memorial service will be held later this year.
