Tom's obituary
Thomas Clarence Hardy
Born: August 21, 1944
Died: February 20, 2024
Thomas Hardy, aged 79, passed away in Portland, Oregon, after a long illness. He was born on August 21, 1944 in Palo Alto, California. He graduated from high school in Illinois after which he attended universities on both the east and west coasts where he studied music, theater and languages, specifically Chinese. He served in the Air Force in Vietnam from 1964 through 1968.
Following his service, Tom’s professional work focused on computer graphics, design, editing and writing. His job experience included editing at Rolling Stone Magazine, publication management and graphics at KPMG in San Francisco, and website and database management at KBPS in Portland, Oregon.
Tom was passionate about the arts and literature and during these years he pursued his interests in drama, music and improv and was involved in the performing arts in San Francisco. His love of flamenco music led him to visit Costa Rica, Spain and other places in Europe.
He met his wife Meredith in Palo Alto in the late 90s, and later moved with her to Oregon and gave up his bachelor status in 2005 when they married.
Tom was a true logophile. He wrote short stories and vignettes and loved rhyming as in limericks, haikus, and couplets. He found great pleasure in creating digital art which graced the walls of their home in Lake Oswego. However, toward the end of his life he felt flummoxed by the technological changes in the digital art programs that he used.
Tom is survived by his wife Meredith, his stepdaughters Melissa and Jessica and their families and his nephew Richard and his family. He was loved and will be sorely missed.
According to his wishes, no formal services will be held.
