It was a hard day when I deleted the reminder on my phone to "Call Tom".  He lived how he wanted on his own terms and I will forever be inspired and amazed by his resilience and bravery.

Tom and I spoke on the phone several times a week for the last years of his life. Some days he was very lucid and we would talk about the books he was reading or a story he remembered of the Army or childhood. His memory was remarkable with very specific details. He liked talking about being a child with his sisters and walking around Contoocook to visit the locals at his favorite places. He frequented the library for company and reading; the Everyday Cafe for coffee and sweets; the store for compassionate greetings, food, and the newspaper; and Dimitri's Pizza. He lived in Contoocook for decades and the town grew to accept him and take care of him. I am forever grateful for their kindness and effort to show grace to my uncle.
