Thomas's obituary
Thomas "Butch" Hamilton Gillispie, Jr. of White Hall Maryland, age 76, passed away on August 2, 2024 at home. Butch, an Air Force veteran, worked as a phone lineman for over 3 decades. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Barbara Gillispie, four children, and ten grandchildren.
Butch loved auto racing, working in the garage, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with his family, especially during their annual camping trips to Assateague Island and other state parks, as well as yearly visits to various NASCAR races around the country. Trips to Niagara Falls, Disney World, the "Tail of the Dragon", and Mexico were also favorites. He will be greatly missed by daughter Rhonda Bateman and husband Robert, son Thomas Gillispie and wife Amy, daughter Kelli Graefe and husband Fred, and son Travis Gillispie and wife Jennifer. He affectionately gave each of his 10 grandchildren special nicknames that he used just as often as their actual names: Jeremy "Tin Man", Cassidy "Pooh", Carsen "Snicklefritz", Madison "Tilda", Shaun "Nefarious", Cameron "Monsieur", Jake "Bull", Caleigh "TW", Cooper "Mini", and Carlynn "Little Miss".
Butch is also survived by brother Chris Gillispie and sister Holly Price, and was predeceased by his father Thomas "Ham" Gillispie, his mother Rebecca Hughes, stepfather Ed Hughes and brother Michael Hughes. Per his wishes, his memorial will be held as a private family gathering.
