Thomas's obituary
He was born January 18, 1939 in Edinburg, PA., a son of the late Paul and Anna Mihallik Gaydos. Mr. Gaydos was a 1956 graduate of Beth Center High School, and went into the Airforce right after graduation. In 1960 Tom was awarded with a Soldier’s Medal and he was honorably discharged that same year. Tom worked in Indian Head, MD and at the Smithsonian for a short while, he then started his career with the Federal Prison system working as a guard at Lorton, VA in 1962. In 1992, Tom retired as the administrator of that same Prison. He loved his Lorton family very much. After moving to NC Tom starting working for NC Communications. He worked for the company up until last week.
Mr. Gaydos enjoyed his family the most, going to the coast, working on vehicles, working in his yard, eating good food, berry picking (so Jean could make pies), grilling, canning and entertaining friends. He always looked forward to spending time with his seven grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Jean Harris Gaydos, who he married on January 14, 1978. He is also survived by two daughters – Saundra Springer (Steven) of Youngsville, Kim Smythe (Jeffrey) of Burlington; a son – Kristopher Kornegay (ex wife Bonnie) of Youngsville; one brothers, David (Anne) Spout Springs, VA; two sisters- Delores Maas (Ronald) Bennet, NE, Faye Lesznar (George) Falling Water, WV; seven grandchildren- Christopher Henny (Debbie), Thomas James “TJ” Springer, Jessica Springer, Hayley Smythe, Jacquelin Jean “JJ” Smythe, Kolton Kornegay and Piper Kornegay; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents (Paul and Anne), a brother Sonny Gaydos, sister in law Deannie Gaydos, nephew John Paul Gaydos; and two nieces- Cindy Lesznar and Dana Gaydos.
Friends will be received at the home of Saundra Springer at 1195 John Mitchell Road, Youngsville, NC. on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 11am.
In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Senior Citizens Center – Franklinton, 602 E. Mason Street, Franklinton, NC 27525, (919)494-5611
