Thomas's obituary

Thomas "Papa Tom" Fleming, 76, of Vista, CA passed away peacefully and returned home to his Maker on June 06, 2022. His last moments were spent in prayers of gratitude and anticipation of being reunited with his family who were with him giving a peaceful blessing of comfort. While holding the hand of his daughter, he transitioned from his physical life to his spiritual and eternal life in heaven where he now sits face to face with his Savior Jesus Christ in his new and fully restored body, free from pain and suffering.

Tom grew up in Crossett, Arkansas and was at his heart a southern man. He loved sweet tea, fish fries, hushpuppies, deer steaks, football, (especially the Razorbacks) and he said Grace before every meal. He was honest, gracious, hard working and open hearted. He never met a stranger, as he had a smile ready for everyone and he was the first one to introduce himself with eye contact and a firm handshake.

He was a true Patriot who loved our Country. Shortly after high school, he enlisted and served as a United States Marine during the Vietnam war. While stationed at Camp Pendleton, he met his wife of 49 years, Terry Long Fleming. Together they had two children and raised them here in his new home town of Vista. He worked as a cobbler and business owner in downtown Vista for over 35 years and was an active member of the Vista Village Business Association and Vista City Planning committees. After he retired, he continued to serve the community as a Volunteer Sheriff. He cared deeply for the future of this town and he was committed to doing his part to make this city a better place.

Tom was predeceased by his parents, Harvey Fleming and Helen Ashcroft Fleming Booth, his twin siblings Dorthy Fleming Pratt and Doyle Fleming and his wife Terry Long Fleming. He is survived by his brother Alan Fleming, his sister Becky Young, his daughter Trish Fleming, his son Brad Fleming and his twin grandchildren James Starnes and Kimberly Starnes.

Thomas requested a celebration of life be held in his honor as opposed to traditional funeral services. He felt most comfortable talking to friends in a casual environment where conversations are natural and heartfelt laughter is shared. We warmly invite you to join his loved ones in celebrating his life at 809 Grapevine Rd on July 5th at 3:00pm. Refreshments will be provided.
