I met Tom so many years ago, I truly remember, but it was about 30 years ago or more. I was looking for an accountant for our Chignik Alaska plant. Tom walked in my office wearing a suit and tie. The first thing I told him was to take the tie off because this was going to be a working position in Alaska four to eight months per year. Tom immediately removed it and said thank you; I don't like to wear them anyway.....we both felt more at ease!
I hired Tom that day and we were soon on our way to Chignik with a known overnight stay in King Salmon. After checking in at one of the motels, I realized we had a lot of time to kill. I felt like having a beer, so asked Tom if he wanted to read a book or join me. Tom stood up and said, " I'm in". We had great time and talked about everything from sports (Tom's favorite) to cod fish, to life in general. We hit it off and started a great friendship that last many years. I still feel a tremendous loss and I'm sure that will continue for the rest of my life.
I felt very sad about not being able to attend the celebrations of life, but health issues precluded that.
I miss my good friend Tom.

I am so very sorry to hear of Tom’s passing, I worked at Conor Byrne’s in Ballard a million years ago and I always enjoyed seeing him walk through the door. A fine man indeed.

I met Tom back in 1997 when he adopted a small white Pekingese that he named Hop Sing from the Seattle Animal Shelter. We adopted Hop Sing's sister, whom we named Pooh Ping. 3 of the people who adopted littermates would get together for puppy reunions. Tom & "Hopper"-- as he called him--were so much fun. I laughed when Tom told us he made a chicken wire shelter for Hop Sing on the deck of his fishing boat so the eagles couldn't snatch him up for lunch. They made a comical duo, that big fella with his little white dog. We lost touch over the years but I always kept a special place in my heart for Tom & Hop Sing. I am sure they are reunited now in heaven. My sincere condolences to the whole family for the loss of the lovely man. I am so glad our little dogs brought us together.

I knew Tom fairly well for a couple years mostly from his days in Bozeman, and we had some good times there. Mostly in the neon lights of "The Cats Paw ", "The Molly Brown", and "The Hofbaru", where we drank a lot of beer on ladies night. He kind of reminded me of Big bird , but with a sharp tongue in an intellectual kind of a way. Tom liked to drink beer ,but he was also a serious student. We both had a bit of an off color humor, so we got along just fine, plus their was a lot of story telling. Now If Tom liked someone he would say "he is a good egg". You never know who your friends really are till you reach out for help. Tom was the one who would answer mine. Tom really was a good egg, because he answered my calls for help more then once. Although we haven't spoken for years and years . I am sorry to see him gone, but for those of us who knew Tom will always remember him. See you on the other side Tommy boy, may God watch over you till then.

so sorry to hear this. We lived across the street from the Simpsons and were always hanging out and playing football in their front yard. Went all through school with them, great memories. Peace be with you.
