Theo's obituary

Theo Jacobs  ( May 28,1948 - March 24,2023 )

Theo Jacobs passed away peacefully late into the night, with family by his side, on March 24, 2023 at the age of 74.

He was born in Duizel, Netherlands and was the second child of a family of 17 children. He immigrated to Canada in 1976 to marry Betty and go on to have two children.

Adrienne Casement is married to Darcy and they have 2 children, daughter, Raezel, age 6, and a brand new baby boy Roen born Feb 3rd, 2023. Zach and his wife Elisa have 2 boys, Charlie (who shared Theo’s birthday) age 12 and Henry age 8.  He loved them all dearly.

Theo was an accountant and a good one. Theo was a very smart guy. He loved his work and when he was unable to continue his work due to health issues many of his clients lamented the loss of his dedicated attention to detail and caring guidance. He worked 2 jobs most of his life.

Money was tight for the first years but with a case of beer, a deck of cards, and some homemade food, we had some good times with friends. We made a dollar go a long way those days.

Theo’s happiest place was at “The Lake” (Windermere) where he was like a different person. He could shed his stresses and let people get to know his fun and playful side. For that reason it was, and continues to be, a hugely important part of all of our lives. Most of the family’s happy memories came from “The Lake”. Many long and wonderful friendships were developed there.

He was the quiet guy in the background and would take in the antics and fun with a grin on his face. He didn’t say much but once in a while would throw in a one liner that would crack everyone up. Totally deadpan. That droll Dutch sense of humour was one of his most endearing traits.

His life was plagued on and off throughout his life with illness beginning at the age of 16. He had 30 surgeries throughout his life which caused years of nerve pain. Through it all he continued to get straight A’s in school and later worked 2 jobs without ever complaining. His need for high doses of pain medication slowly stole him away from us.

We hope you can join us April 14, 2023 from 2:00 to 7:00 pm at the Danish Canadian Club, 727-11 Ave SW, Calgary, AB to remember the good times we had with Theo.

Tributes and slide show will be followed by an open mike (wake style) and we encourage you to share your memories and stories.

For those that cannot attend, a link to a video presentation of the memorial service will be posted and shared following the ceremony.

A special thank you to Dr. Catherine McKenna, who's compassionate care for Theo in Foothills Hospital and at Bowcrest Care Home was over and above the norm.
