Theodore's obituary

Theodore  Gerran, devoted husband and father, passed away on January 05, 2024 at the age of 75 after a courageous battle with ALS.

Theodore, fondly known as Ted,  was born on April 17, 1948 to his parents, Myrtle (Rankin) and Wilbur H. Gerran in New York, NY.   He was baptized at the age of 10 as one of Jehovah's Witnesses during the Divine Will International Convention at the Polo Grounds in Harlem.  This would go on to shape his life as an adult and would inspire him to be a dedicated and loving  father as well as a devoted member of his local congregation.   His first marriage to the late Carol Gerran yielded two beautiful children, Elliot and Kirsten. For some time, Ted attended the Rochdale congregation in Queens, NY. He entered a career in Information Technology and his professional life yielded many accomplishments while working for JP Morgan & Associates in Manhattan.

Ted met his current wife, Sandra Matos through mutual friends in 1987 at a congregation picnic and the pair went on to eventually marry and blend their two families in South Ozone Park, NY. Our blended family was defined by love of family and love of God. Ted continued working in the IT field and eventually received a job transfer.  They settled in Riverview, Florida.   This move allowed them to simplify their lives and pursue their spiritual goals.  After Ted retired from a long and fulfilling career, he and Sandra devoted themselves to full time service in their ministry.  Together they accomplished many spiritual goals.  They attended the East Riverview congregation and were blessed to gain many loving spiritual family members and friends. Ted was a "straight shooter" and maintained strict adherence to his spiritual principles. He was an excellent Elder and coordinator within the congregation and volunteered his time overseeing construction projects.  He also enjoyed working in the Audio/Visual department for many assemblies and conventions. Ted was an eloquent public speaker, a patient teacher, and a wise confidant.  He had a great sense of humor and would often "bust chops" in a fun way. He really enjoyed Formula One Racing and loved to show videos of it.  He was an avid nature enthusiast and loved to watch nature shows with family. Ted was a wonderful photographer and enjoyed capturing unguarded beauty with candid photos as well as still photos of Jehovah's beautiful creation. He listened to smooth jazz, his favorite was "Sounds of Music" the Coltrane version.   He was a great dancer and enjoyed salsa dancing with his wife.   A great steak made to perfection on the grill with Appleton Rum would make his evening. Watching British TV shows set in the 40s with popcorn and red wine was one of his favorite ways to unwind.  Ted's faith in Jehovah God was strong, and he would often visualize himself in Paradise, free of the chains of imperfection and illness.

Ted leaves behind his wife Sandra Gerran, his children Elliot [Ellen] Gerran and Kirsten [Jerrell] Fisher from his first marriage to the late Carol Gerran; his step-children Jason [Rosaly] Williams, Gisela [Demetrius] Crichlow, and Lauren [Randy] Pinckney from his current marriage, grandchildren Micaiah, Demetrius, Zoe, Isabella and Eva, his sister Lisa Gerran,  as well as many loving uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.  We all mourn the loss of our beloved husband, father and friend and encourage any and all who knew him to remember the beauty he brought to this world. For those interested, services will be held at 5:00 pm on January 27th at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Riverview, FL.
