On October 5, 2025, Tetuei P. "Teu" Browne passed away peacefully in Seattle, Washington, at the age of 90. Born on November 8, 1935, in Aitutaki in the Cook Islands, Teu lived a life marked by strength, devotion, and an unwavering spirit that touched all who knew her.
Teu graduated from Aitutaki College in her hometown, laying the foundation for a remarkable career that would take her across the islands. She went on to become a manager at one of Rarotonga’s largest hotels—a role she embraced with passion and determination. Her dedication to her work was unmatched, and she retired in 1999 at the age of 64 after years of committed service. Her professional journey was not just about leadership but about setting an example of perseverance and excellence.
At the heart of Teu’s life was her family. She was the proud mother of six children: Joe Browne, J.J. Browne, Rita Howard, Hemona Browne, Paloma Tuinei, and one other beloved son. Her love extended deeply to her grandchildren as well. Rita’s children—Ilien Howard, Tevita Suita, and Mary Browne—and Paloma’s children—Terry, Budda, Tiki, Tana, Tae, Alez, Nikki, and Mia Tuinei—were constant sources of joy in her life. Teu cherished every moment spent with them and found immense happiness in their presence.
A woman of deep faith and hope, Teu was known for her strong-minded nature and radiant personality. Her strength was not only evident in how she carried herself but also in how she inspired those around her to persevere through life’s challenges. Her home was often filled with laughter and warmth as she tended to her garden or gathered with her children and grandchildren—moments that reflected the essence of who she was.
Teu's legacy is one of love—love for her family, for her work, and for life itself. Her memory will continue to shine brightly through those she leaves behind.
May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. A Burial will be held on October 13, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Cascade Monuments & Urns 1118 W Smith Rd, Bellingham, WA 98226. This will only be a family service and burial.
