Terry's obituary
Terry Allen Ward, 76, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025, in his home surrounded by loved ones.
Born on April 8, 1949, in Grayling, Michigan, Terry graduated from Walled Lake Central High School and enrolled in Michigan State. His inventive mind, and his passion for life could not be tamed in academia. His biggest wish to marry and have a loving family that mirrored his own upbringing came true when he married Linda Marie Gutherie and raised three sons in a home he built with his own hands in Holly, Michigan. After he lost his beloved wife to ALS, he remarried a high school alum, Eva Gunn.
Terry will be remembered best for his effervescent sense of humor and a huge loving heart that drew children and all creatures great and small to him. Terry was a conservative, hardworking man, bigger than life and strong. He was generous, hospitable, and the life of every party who loved to cook up a storm for a crowd. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren, including those he “adopted” of Eva’s family. He was a talented cartoonist, a constant tinkerer, and left a lab book full of inventions he had created. Terry built his own plane and piloted it all over the country. He restored cars, jeeps, motorcycles, pontoon boats, and sailboats right up to the end of his life.
Terry was the loving son of the late Frederick T. Ward and Faye M. Ward. Terry was a beloved sibling to the late Thomas Ward, the late Robin Ward, Faye (Ward) Holden, Jaye Ward, and Rick (Vicki Moon) Ward. He was the loving husband to the late Linda Marie Gutherie and is survived by his wife, Eva Gunn Ward. He is survived by his sons Terry Allen Ward, Jr, Ryan Everett Ward (Abigail Ward), and Addison Thomas Ward. Terry was the loving grandfather to four grandsons, and two granddaughters. He was very much loved by the three step daughters, six grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren Eva brought into his life.
We are honoring Terry’s wishes by gathering as a family for a memorial in Grayling at the Kellogg Bridge on Sunday, September 28.
