Terry's obituary

Terry J. O'Rourke, 75, of Port Orange, FL, passed away peacefully at home with his wife and daughter by his side on July 18, 2024. Born on September 17, 1948, in Chicago, IL, Terry was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Mary O'Rourke; his daughter, Jen O'Rourke-Evans (Michael); and his cherished grandchildren, Ethan O'Rourke and Meara, Willow, and Olive Evans. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Irene Donahue and Jean Fox, as well as his brothers-in-law (Jim, Joe, and Tom), numerous family members and close friends.

Terry was preceded in death by his beloved son, Matthew O'Rourke.

Terry was a proud Irish American who grew up in Chicago. He formed close friendships with a group of core buddies from high school, known as the "Five Musketeers," friendships he cherished throughout his life. Terry was outgoing and made friends wherever he went, including a group of neighbors from his time living on the river who became like brothers to him. He also deeply loved his dear "Sensei," who was a significant influence in his life.

A Vietnam veteran, Terry served his country with honor and later retired from the Army Reserves. He worked in IT for most of his career, where his dedication and expertise were highly valued.

Terry loved spending time at the beach, indulging in unique foods, and enjoying music, with a particular fondness for rock. Just the night before his passing, his daughter asked him about his favorite bands. Terry made a point to think about it and played her The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter." Jen played The Rolling Stones for him while he was resting in bed before his passing. His passions and interests were a testament to his vibrant personality and zest for life.

Terry's laugh, smile, humor, and love of family and friends will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
