Terry's obituary
Terry Albert Hummel, 78, of Kuna, ID passed away peacefully on December 7th, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Terry grew up in both Regina, Saskatchewan and Bakersfield, CA. After high school Terry joined the US Navy where he was a Dental Technician achieving the rank of third class petty officer stationed in Pearl Harbor, HI and Okinawa, Japan. Upon his honorable discharge in 1965 Terry returned to Bakersfield where he used his G.I. Bill to attend Bakersfield Junior College.
In 1967 Terry married the love of his life, Jill Kristin Adams of Bakersfield. They would be happily married for 54 years. In 1968 the couple moved to Moscow, ID so that Terry could complete his degree at the University of Idaho. After obtaining his B.A. in History Terry was accepted to the U of I law school. On the same day of acceptance he learned he was going to be a daddy and quickly decided to put law school on hold in favor of finding a job to support his family. Soon thereafter Terry and Jill moved south to the Treasure Valley where Terry worked three jobs, which included student teaching at Borah High School in the summer of 1970. By the Fall of 1970 they moved back up to North Idaho where Terry was hired by the Idaho State Probation and Parole in Lewiston. Susan Kelly Hummel was born on December 3, 1970. They had there second child Christopher Aaron Hummel on September 9, 1972. In the summer of 1974 Terry would make the jump to Federal Probation and Parole and move the family south to Pocatello. In 1976 the family would relocate to Boise where Terry would work until his retirement as the Idaho's Chief Federal Probation Officer in 1995.
Following retirement Terry was able to return to his passion for the ocean by selling the family home and purchasing a 33 foot Hans Christian sailboat (Syringa) on which the couple would spend the next five years sailing. After a shakedown cruise to Alaska they sailed south and eventually through the Panama Canal. They would then spend the next few years sailing around Central America and up and down the east coast of the United States. They would swallow the anchor and sell the vessel in Daytona Beach, FL in favor of purchasing a home in Bellingham, WA. That allowed them to purchase and moore a 36' Rawson trawler (White Fox) in Squalicum Harbor. White Fox would allow for short voyages up to Canada and in the Puget Sound as well as pleasure cruises with the grandchildren. In 2016 they would move back to Boise to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Terry will be dearly missed and always remembered. Terry was predeceased by his cherished grandad John Metheny Alexander of Regina, Saskatchewan and brother Allen Hummel of Yucaipa, CA.
