My 3 sons Earl Mark and Karl aboard Ted’s 50 foot Columbia sailboat. This was on a two week, most memorable trip in The Virgin Islands. Thanks my Dear Friend Teddy.
 Your Friend and Brother
Earl Thomas

Teddy and I were dear lifelong friends from Yonkers and shared a passion for sailing. We’d go out together frequently when I had my place on St Thomas.  Teddy had also on occasion go out sailing with me in the Long Island Sound

Teddy would rave over a simple meal of franks and beans. We talked at least once a month and I always looked forward to his interesting banter on his current exploits.

My sons Earl, Mark and Karl had a two week memorable sailing trip aboard his 50 foot Columbia sailboat. This unique man will be missed dearly.

I never met Teddy. As a fellow sailor, I acknowledged and respected him from afar. Teddy's obituary highlights the accolades he received from the Slocum Society, the Yachting Hall of Fame, the Seaman's Church Institute of New York and more. Long distance cruisers are typically humble and usually don't regard themselves as extraordinary or special. But Teddy was a gift to humanity, and we all sail in his wake. Rest in Peace. 😢⛵️

Teddy will be missed by all of us!  We  shared so many wonderful memories sailing in the US Virgin Islands and the British Virgin Islands upon the Love Song with him.  My father, Robert  F. Seymour (Ted’s first cousin)  bought a sailboat and started sailing , as he was inspired  by Teddy and his interest.   All of us were so proud to teach our children about Ted and his being the first African American man to solo circumnavigate the world on a sailboat.  He was certainly fun to be with and to share unparalleled experiences with!

You will be missed Tedddy, thank you for all the wonderful memories!

With lots of love,

Leslie
