Taras began his career after getting out of the Army in 1970 and worked as a merchant marine in a fleet on the Black Sea. In 1976 he moved to Siberia to work on an oil rig. He met his wife, Inna Vorobyeva, after joining a ballroom dance studio and they were married on November 17, 1978. Shorty after, they moved to Ukraine and he became a father of Oleg in 1980. Two years later they moved to the Caucasus Region and he had his second child Dimitri. He worked as a heavy machine operator and enjoyed leading backpacking trips with his wife in the Caucasus mountains as mountaineering guides. In 1993 he moved his family to Parma, OH and began a new life as a machinist at Voss Industries until he retired in 2018, the same year in which he began his battle with multiple myeloma.

Through the years he enjoyed playing chess, gardening, remodeling, volleyball, dirt biking, and playing hockey. He always felt young and loved being outside. In his retirement he learned how to unicycle and inspired youth to progress. He enjoyed playing with his grandkids and going to their hockey games.
