Tara's obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of the bravest person I have ever met, Tara Lee Cernacek, who departed peacefully on March 15, 2025, in Fort Myers, FL. Born in New York City in 1970 to Lorraine Thoomey and George Cernack. Tara lived a life defined by warmth, curiosity, and a fearless spirit of adventure. Her strength, compassion, and unwavering courage left a lasting impression on all who knew and loved her.

Throughout her life, Tara was guided by an unwavering sense of compassion and responsibility for others. She devoted much of her professional career to supporting nonprofit organizations, where her passion, dedication, and expertise made a meaningful difference in countless lives. Tara deeply believed in service, advocacy, and in showing up for those who needed her most.

Tara’s love for animals was equally profound. A lifelong dreamer and entrepreneur, she proudly brought her vision to life by opening her own pet store, “Happy Pets.” More than a business, it became a welcoming haven for animals and a gathering place for fellow animal lovers—reflecting Tara’s generous heart and enduring commitment to the well-being of pets and their families.

Above all else, Tara was devoted to her family and friends. She spent much of her life serving as a guardian to both of her brothers, a role she embraced with fierce love, protection, and selflessness. She was not only a guardian but a sister and best friend. Always offering unwavering support, wisdom, and companionship to those closest to her.

Tara is survived by her loving brothers, Rob and Ed, who will forever cherish her memory. She was also a proud and devoted aunt, leaving behind Kira, Aaliyah, and Reagan, who brought her immense joy and purpose.

Tara leaves behind a legacy of courage, kindness, and authenticity. Her life was a testament to living one’s truth, protecting those she loved, pursuing dreams without fear, and extending compassion wherever life led her.

As we say goodbye, we remember the radiant energy Tara brought into every room, the adventures that shaped her journey, and the love she shared so freely. Though she is no longer with us in body, Tara's spirit, stories, and enduring influence will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
