Tammy's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the loss of our daughter, mother, grandmother, sister,
aunt, cousin and friend to all, Tammy Walker. Just weeks ago Tammy received the dreadful news that
she had terminal cancer, always a positive person she accepted the diagnosis with courage and chose to
live her best life in the time remaining. Sadly, Tammy left us on the 22 of April, peacefully in Edson,
Alberta with her adoring sister Pamela at her side. She departed ready for the next steps of the journey
in her faith.
Tammy was given the gift of life on June 30th, 1962 in Halifax, to parents June (nee Delong) and Paul
Gould (deceased 2014), she spent her days with her older brothers Chris and Stephen and younger sister
Pamela. They travelled the eastern part of the country as a military family. Summers were always spent
in Southwest NB, showered with love from her Grammy Mignon, aunts, uncles and all her cousins. In
1975 Tammy settled in to a new extended family in NB, where she welcomed her brother Bill and sister
Colleen. She graduated from Sussex High and went on to marry there and have two sons that she
adored, Travis and Matthew.
A true Maritimer, Tammy lived in all three provinces; NS, NB and PEI. Tammy, Travis and Matthew soon
became their own small but loving family, they lived in Kensington PEI, where Tammy, a single mother,
worked and went to school to accomplish her goal to become a dental assistant. It was the perfect
career for a woman with Tammy’s smile, it was always the biggest and the brightest, and she shared it
with everyone. Strong in her beliefs and without fear, she headed west to Alberta with her sons to start
a new life. Tammy spent 15 years in Edmonton as a successful dental assistant and found many new
friends and her partners in faith at the VantagePoint Community Church. Her very best role, a
grandmother began with the arrival of Mystik, whom she cherished and she was further blessed to have
Jazzmin, Brook, Amerylis, Rylan and Matthew Junior come into her life. Always ready for growth and a
new challenge she took yet another daring step in her life and moved to Edson, Alberta. Tammy
inspired us all with her sense of adventure, her love and dedication to her work and readiness to
embrace another community where she easily turned colleagues into friends for her career to further
her career where she made many new friends and worked with some wonderful colleagues.
The threads of love in the fabric of Tammy’s life were her faith, her family and her work. Her giving, her
love and her hard work ethic inspired us all, she loved her family and her career and dedicated herself to
her job, turning colleagues into friends and was a role model for all of us. The only thing that was bigger
than Tammy’s beautiful smile, was her heart. We will miss her so.
Our most sincere thanks and admiration go to Marilyn Oishi, Tammy’s palliative care nurse practitioner
and all of staff at the Edson Healthcare center, they provided outstanding care and support to Tammy
and Pamela throughout.
