EULOGY Written by Michael Addington

Opening prayer:

Ladies and gentlemen, dear friends and family, we gather here today with heavy hearts to remember and celebrate the life of a young soul, Tamione. In times of profound loss, we seek solace, understanding, and the strength to move forward. Today, as both a spiritual leader and a therapist, I stand before you to offer a message of comfort, guided by faith and compassion, in the face of the tragic loss we have experienced.

First I'd like to talk about God's Unconditional Love and Compassion: In moments of pain and confusion, we often turn to our faith for guidance. We believe that God, in His infinite wisdom, looks upon us with boundless love and compassion. Tamione's struggle with suicide reminds us that we live in a world where battles within the mind can be just as fierce as those on the battlefield. In the eyes of God, there is no judgment, only love. His grace extends to Tamione, as it does to all who face the depths of despair.

Now I'd like to speak a little about Jesus' and his Message of Redemption and Understanding: If we were to imagine the voice of Jesus speaking to us today, we might hear Him say, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). Jesus' words remind us that even in our darkest moments, we are not alone. He understands our pain and invites us to find solace in His presence. Just as He forgave and welcomed those who felt lost, He extends the same compassion to Tamione and everyone here today.I would encourage each of you to seek a personal relationship with our Lord and savior. Just saying we believe is not enough. We must read his word to better understand him and pray often in order to develop a personal relationship with him.

Though Tamione's journey on this earth has come to an end, we can imagine what he might say to us if he could. He might tell us that his pain was overwhelming, his heart heavy with burdens too difficult to bear. But he would also want us to remember the joyful moments, the laughter shared, and the love that bound us together. He would urge us not to blame ourselves, for his struggle was a complex battle within. Ultimately I believe that Tamione would tell us, “The only thing that matters is salvation”.

So where do we go from here? How do we begin the path to wellness? In the wake of suicide, those left behind often grapple with a unique set of emotions. As a therapist, I want to share some insights into the psychological journey that many of you may be experiencing. Grief after suicide can be a complex and confusing process, marked by shock, guilt, anger, and profound sadness. It's crucial to seek support, whether through therapy, support groups, or leaning on loved ones, as we navigate the intricate terrain of healing. I personally have been seeing a therapist for most of the last 7 years and I can honestly say, even with God and Narcotics Anonymous without my therapist I would not be the man I am today. I wouldn't have overcome the things that I've gone through.

Conclusion: In our grief and longing for understanding, we must remember that God's love is a constant source of comfort. Jesus' compassion knows no bounds, and in His arms, we can find rest. As we honor Tamione's memory, let us also honor his struggles by committing to foster open conversations about mental health, breaking down the stigma that too often shrouds these discussions.

May we find strength in each other, may we find solace in our faith, and may Tamione's spirit remind us that even in our darkest hours, love and compassion can bring us closer to the light.

In the spirit of celebrating Tamione's life and the profound impact he had on each of us, I invite you all to come forward and share your cherished memories, heartfelt stories, and the lessons you've learned from his journey. Every word spoken is a tribute to the vibrant soul that Tamione was, and by sharing our experiences, we create a tapestry of his life that will forever be woven into the fabric of our hearts. Let us find comfort and strength in the unity of our stories, as we come together to honor Tamione's memory and ensure that his light continues to shine brightly through our collective recollections.
