Tami's obituary

Tami Anita Crofts, 64, of Murphysboro, IL, passed away in her family home surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 after several months of battling Stage 4 Lung Cancer.  Tami was born on November 13, 1957 to Kinison "Jack" and Violet (McKinney) Farris in Carbondale, IL.  She graduated from Lakeview High School, Decatur, IL in 1975 and went on to work in various administrative, accounting, and customer service positions throughout her life.

She was married to her first husband, Marc J. Hazen, in her early twenties and lived in Placerville, CA.  They divorced in 1985, and Tami returned to Southern Illinois where she lived out the majority of her life.  She later married, Albert "Brian" Crofts on September 1, 1991 in Carbondale, IL, and they went on to become parents of daughter, Rachel Crofts, and son, Cody Crofts.   She was separated and later divorced from Brian Crofts after 20 years of marriage.

Tami retired in 2012 from working as an administrative assistant at Southern Illinois University for just over 20 years.  After becoming a mother, she paused her career for 7 years from 1997 to 2004 to stay at home and care for her children while her husband was away working for mobile construction crews on the railroad.  On top of being a mother and managing her home, she also picked up part time jobs book-keeping for others during this time.

Tami had a lifelong appreciation for artistry and creation - ranging from crafting, painting, and crocheting - to collecting eclectic artwork and décor that inspired her own interior design.  She enjoyed gardening and cooking and spent many years collecting and experimenting with new recipes.  Tami had a passionate and creative mind with a snappy wit and love for music, dancing, and socializing.  She often made friends with musicians and other local creatives, or anyone else willing to share a laugh.  She was known for her great sense of humor, sharp personality, and big heart.   We will miss her greatly.

She was preceded in death by her parents; younger brother, Michael Farris; brother-in-law, Richard Dietz; and beloved friend, Larry Kosma.

Her survivors include: daughter - Rachel Crofts (Chris Simmonds); son - Cody Crofts (Sarah Zwick); sister - Diana Dietz; niece - Shelley (Gary) Eisenhauer; nephew - Cleth "Josh" (Brittaney) Dietz; great-nephews - Christopher (Desarae) Eisenhauer, Devon Eisenhauer, and great-great nephew and niece - Daniel and Leah Eisenhauer.

She is remembered and dearly missed by her close friends Pam Endicott, Tanya Dodds-Paul, Brenda Poston, Marsha Trammel, and Angela Smothermon.

Celebration of Life Services will be held from 10:00-1:00PM CT on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Giant City Nature Trail Shelter #3.  For those who are unable to attend in person, a virtual Zoom Meeting will be open from 12:00-1:00PM CT, via the link below.  Memorials may be made to family or donated to the American Lung Association.
